Hospitality

When Ronald McDonald House Charities® built their new house in Boise, it not only positively impacted the families that they serve, but also brought together a collaboration of companies around an art piece that would lead the way for Rare Canvas™. It was an honor for Heim Design Studio, WoodLab, and JOHN RALPH Furniture to make contributions to this meaningful community project. Below are photos from the production of the feature wall art piece.

This design concept, on two very large slabs of locally-sourced Black Walnut, captures Idaho’s mountain ranges, trees and meadows, rivers and valleys that welcome guests to their home away from home.
To make this are piece a true part of the community, the operations and management team from RMHC Boise came to the WoodLab shop to mix and pour the epoxy.
Mountains, rivers and trees were CNC carved by Holzapple Custom Designs, and then filled by the RMHC team with over 60L of colored epoxy resin.
A simple team building exercise like this gives deeper personal meaning to the art, and helps solidify the team's commitment to each other, and the mission of the new house.
At over 400lbs, a forklift was used to suspend the piece, so LED lights could be mounted to the back and tested before delivery to Boise.
Transporting the heavy piece by hand took a team of eight and careful logistical coordination during installation.
Final checks of the LED lighting unit and custom steel wall cleat alignment are made before the piece is carefully mounted to the wall.
Tim and David, from WoodLab, pose with the art piece after installation.

A memorable, destination piece in the lobby of RMHC Boise, IdaHome welcomes guests with its warm presence and calming glow.
